Professional equipment rental built on reliability and transparency
Jornica was established in 2018 by Thomas Blackwood, a cinematographer who recognised a gap in the UK rental market for transparent, professional equipment services. After years of dealing with unclear rental terms and inconsistent equipment quality, Thomas decided to create a rental service that prioritised clear communication and equipment reliability.
We started with a small inventory of camera bodies and lenses, operating from a modest workshop in Gourock. Our focus from the beginning was simple: maintain equipment to professional standards, communicate rental terms clearly, and treat clients' productions with respect.
Over the past several years, we've expanded our equipment range to include cinema cameras, lighting systems, and support equipment. What hasn't changed is our commitment to straightforward dealings and equipment care.
Jornica established with initial inventory of Canon and Sony camera bodies and professional lenses.
Added professional lighting systems including Profoto studio strobes and Aputure continuous lighting.
Introduced RED and ARRI cinema cameras to serve film production market.
Expanded team to include dedicated equipment technician and client relations specialist.
Serving photography studios, film productions, and commercial projects across the UK.
Equipment is maintained to professional standards and tested before every rental. We take equipment care seriously because we understand that productions depend on functioning gear.
Regular servicing, sensor cleaning, and lens calibration. We invest in proper maintenance to ensure equipment performs as expected when you need it.
Clear rental terms, straightforward pricing, and honest communication about equipment capabilities and limitations. No hidden fees or unexpected charges.
Honest assessments of which equipment suits specific projects. We provide technical guidance based on actual capabilities, not sales targets.
Detailed equipment briefings and clear handling instructions. We believe in helping clients use equipment properly rather than dealing with damage claims.
Consistent quality checks, documented equipment history, and systematic maintenance schedules ensure reliability across all rental items.
We operate a rental service, not a sales operation. Our aim is to provide working equipment with clear terms so you can focus on your production work. We understand that equipment is a tool, not the end product, and our service reflects that perspective.
Productions face enough variables without worrying about equipment reliability or unclear rental agreements. We handle the equipment side so you can concentrate on creative and technical decisions.
This approach means being honest about equipment capabilities, realistic about what different cameras and lenses can achieve, and clear about rental terms from the start. It's a straightforward way of doing business that seems to work well for the professionals we serve.
